Teplice, Czech Republic

Teplice
We left Prague early this morning to get to our next destination which was Teplice a town of about 200 people in one of the National Parks of the Czech Republic. We took 4 trains to get here and it took us about 4 hours. The trains were of various eras from old and dirty to new and modern. As we had to change trains we were following our guide’s directions as to when to rush off the train as there was little time in between. We all hurried off one train with our backpacks and suitcases to catch the next one and as the train pulled away we heard our guide calling out, “Not here, Not here”. We had gotten off at the wrong stop and Kris, our guide had almost lost us!! Luckily the conductor saw us and slowed down so we could get back on.

That's Kris telling us not to move again until he says so!!

After that little adventure we finally got here, settled into our little pension and had lunch. The sun was shining so we could sit outside and enjoy our lunch. The pension is owned by a local family and they also have a little bar and restaurant attached. The place is quite clean with small bedrooms and shared bathrooms. I am here writing in the bedroom and a stream is gurgling by outside the window. Quite a peaceful place.

Ohh fresh grilled trount with herbs and butter

We then went on a 3 hour hike through the mountains and saw some interesting rock formations. The hike was full of sights and a number of us climbed the stairs to the top of the mountain.

Don and I at the top of the mountain

This is a popular place for Czech families to go for a day trip, so since it is Sunday there were a lot of them on the trail. It was also nice because it is the first place we have been that is not overrun by tourists like ourselves!

Some of the rocks

During the hike we saw a lot of rock formations with funny names; some we could figure out and others not. Here is one for you….

Can you guess??

We also climbed through narrow caves and came across some rock climbers since the rocks are quite steep it seemed to be a very popular place for climbers.

Did you know that Don can rock climb?

Tight squeeze

There is absolutely nothing to do in this town at night so the owner entertained us with a barbeque.

Looks like we are enjoying it
