Cesky Krumlov Day 2

Cesky Krumlov Day 2

I am writing this from the pub of the hotel we are staying in as this is the only place I can get the internet. The place is full with people sitting at communal wooden tables filled with jugs of beer. In the corner there is an old upright piano being played by an old upright man, who is quite good. The patrons all have song books and are singing along with the owner of the place with great gusto as they bang there jugs on the table. I think the last song was Take Me Home Country Road in Czeck.

This hotel is also quite unique. It is located just off the main square and was built in 1450, yes 1450!! It is quite lovely and comfortable.

Today was another full day in this wonderful little town. Slept in a little and then went for breakfast which was a typical one consisting of bread, cheese and meat with tea.

We did a tour of the town and castle with a local tour guide who has lived here all her life and is quite proud of this town. The castle and its grounds are quite amazing; it was built in the 1400s and is covered in frescos which have been very well preserved. There are also large gardens and a moat that serves as a garden for brown bears which are considered to be a lucky charm. Here are a few pictures of some of the things we saw.

After lunch six of the group including us went rafting on the Vlatva River which runs through the town. We went 15 km downstream in about 2 and one half hours. There was some fast water but most of the time we had to paddle. There weren’t a lot of people on the river because it wasn’t sunny. We didn’t get too wet and really enjoyed the trip.

Now what for supper today ? This time another great menu with all the meals being cooked over an open fire. My choice was trout and a cabbage and horseradish salad and of course a glass of white wine.
