Our new place on the beach

Progreso, Mexico December 2, 2010

We took the Auto Progreso bus from Merida to Progreso which costs us 15 pesos each. It took us about 50 minutes and when we arrived the property manager, Tamara, picked us up and drove us to our house. The house is as we expected from the photos and looks as if it will be a great place to spend the next three months. It is quite a large house really more than we need but it will be great when people come to visit.

The house is owned by a woman from New York called Genya Raven. She built this house from a shell a couple of years ago and did an amazing job with it. She does not spend much time here so she rents it out when she is not here. She seems to be an interesting lady and has her house decorated with lots of great art work. Here is her website http://www.genyaravan.com/

Here are some pictures of the house...

Here is the pool at the back of the house. It is set in a lovely garden which is quite private.
The kitchen with a propane stove with a grill on top.Great for cooking.
Our computer corner with free wifi throughout the house.
Part of the main area...comfortable couches.

And the beach which we see from the house...

View up the beach from the top terrace
The view right in front of the house..It is not a prisitine resort beach but  a working beach full of fishing boats.

Don in front of the beach road which runs in front of all the houses.

We are still getting used to the place as every house has new sounds especially at night. As you can see this house is well secured with locked gates, windows and doors so we feel very secure when we are here, though neither of us think that this is a place to be worried about. Tamara has told us that there is a beach robbery every now and then but they are usually crimes of opportunity where a door or window is left open and laptops and wallets are in plain sight.

We are still getting our bearings about the town and surrounding area as well so the next blog will be about Progreso as soon as I can get out and get some pictures to share with you.

  1. Mom, what's your camera again? Is it a Cannon Powershot? We need a new one badly, and your pictures look so good. I can't remember what you got in the end.

  2. Looks like you're having a great time from the get-go Debbie. As usual your pics are lovely and the house looks even better than the pictures on VRBO. I chuckled over Don having to take so many suitcases ... sounds as if he's definitely a 1 bag traveler!
