As usual Don is stopped to talk...
I am enjoying the solitude, loved this picture the guide took and forwarded to me later...
On the way down we see some of the tea pickers at work...
There are thousands of workers, mostly women who work year round harvesting the crop. They make 330 rupees a day which is approximately 6.50 CAD if they meet their quota of 27 kilos per day, more if they exceed it. This work is very labour intensive and difficult but the workers usually stay at it for a lifetime. The company provides housing, education and health benefits as long as they are employed with them.
Some of the houses on the way...
The school...
Some of the scenery on the way down...
Don and Sri...
Sri explains that out of each tea plant they make green, black and white tea using different parts of each plant...
Workers fixing the roads, mostly all work here is done by hand...
Tea bagged and waiting to be picked up...
Men are the ones who usually work the machinery on the plantations...
The roads wind through the fields that hug all the hills...
Heading back into the town...
Back to town and all in all an awesome trek...
