But before we left we took in another annual event, the Full Moon Jazz Festival, which is held every year in Telchac Puerto a beach town about 20 kms from Progreso. This area is filled with many new beach homes and condo developments like the one where the event was held.
The stage was in an awesome location.
Lots of people wee in attendance
This family was enjoying lunch...
And these ladies were cooling their heels...
A view as the sun was going down and people started dancing under the full moon.
There was a big band from Merida and the monies go towards supporting education in the area. To send a child to public school costs the equivalent of 132 US dollars a year so many families find this very difficult to finance thus the need for additional support. We always like to support education in this area as we know that education will make a difference.
Speaking of which, this week was my last one at school and I was truly sorry to say good bye. We had some great fun and learning with a kite building activity and a games day.
Putting the kites together
Getting them in the air!

A fun activity
Sometimes the best way to learn is through activity.
Don and I also went to visit Merida on Sunday as we have not gone thee much this year and Sundays are always the best day in the city...
Always lots of action in the square...
Colourful dancers...
Merida also has many wonderful museums that are free to the public. One of these is the Museum of Contemporary Art which has many visiting collections. I could have easily stayed longer as I love contemporary work.
Here is a little look at the Museum and its' collections...
The entrance
The outer courtyard...
The inner courtyard..
Paper art...
Sculpture...
Collage...
My favourite...
Textiles...
And what do you think Don is saying about this one?
Across the square at the Cultural Center there was a Andy Warhol exhibit, again free to the public. ( I think other cities should learn from this.)
There were lots of Marilyns...
And lots of Maos...
A few more as well, a small but impressive collection.
Finally a neat story that reminds us why we love Progreso...
There is small coffee shop not far from us that we went to on a regular basis and got to know the waitress, a young woman called Paty. She spoke no English, me a little Spanish and we got along really well.
They have 2 for 1 beer in the afternoons so one afternoon we were there with another couple having some cervazas and asked for the bill. She came out and tried to tell us something with a concerned look on her face. I finally fiqured out that we had only an odd number of cervaza and we must have an even number for 2 for 1. Oh, uno mas cervaza? Si and out she came with the last round! We had a great laugh together and she was so happy that she made sure we got what we paid for! We also know there are many places where we would have never gotten that last round before we paid la cuenta!
Count the bottles...2 for 1 means an even number!
When I told Paty we were leaving she insisted that we come back to the cafe the day before we left and she would serve us a dessert that she would make at her casa and bring to work! Again with no English and my Spanish I thought that is what she said so we showed up on Miercoles at cinco horas and sure enough she was right when she said "Soy muy bien concinero!"
Here is Paty serving her dessert to Don and Sharon.
Looks good and tastes better!
Sharing my email with Paty, I hope she keeps in touch!
So we left Progeso with lots of happy memories of the people we had met, our old friends and new, and the many wonderful experiences that have made this visit even better than the last!
